What courses do you run?
Four full time courses are run in Pallaskenry.

  • FETAC Certificate in Agriculture Level 5  
  • FETAC Advanced Certificate in Agriculture Level 6  
  • FETAC Advanced Certificate in Agricultural Mechanisation Level 6
  • HETAC Higher Certificate in Technology in Agricultural Mechanisation (In partnership with Limerick Institute of Technology) Level 6

Advanced Certificate in Agriculturtal Mechanisation (FETAC)

What are the qualifications for entry?
You must have completed some other course before you can be accepted. Most of the machinery students have completed the Level 5 Certificate in Agriculture, but we would consider any other course that you may have completed.

How long does the course take?
This is a 15 months course, 9 months in Pallaskenry and 6 months on work experience.

How many places are available?
There are 20 place available.

What are the job prospects afterwards?
Many fields are open to a graduate of the Advanced Certificate in Agricultural Mechisation Course i.e. mechanic, salesperson, stores-manager, machinery operator, agricultural contractor. Also further education.

Are you a qualified mechanic after finishing the course?
To become a fully qualified FAS mechanic you will have to do further studies in an Institute of Technology and with a FAS approved garage. 

What exams do you have to sit?
You will sit the FETAC exams and the City & Guilds exams.

What is the practical content of the course?
The Pallaskenry course is 33% theory and 67% practical. We are educating people to diagnose and repair faults in and to operate farm machinery. The placement period is very important  to reinforce the practical and theory aspects.

Is there always placement abroad and if so where?
If a student wants to work abroad they can. About 50% of our students go abroad every year to various places such as USA, Germany, Denmark. The placement periods abroad are fully organised by Teagasc.
