Introduction
Farm machinery has become technicially advanced and expensive. Farmers and contractors operating
modern machinery require advanced technical, business and management knowledge and skills.
The aim of the Course is to provide the in-depth knowledge and skills
required for a career as a farmer, agricultural contractor, fabricator,
salesperson or sales demonstrator.(students are not qualified as agricultural
mechanics)
Students who successfully complete the course will have fulfilled all the requirements for Stamp Duty Relief and Installation
Aid, etc. (A evel 6 FETAC Certificate is awarded to graduates of the this
course)
New Timetable for Advanced Certificate in
Agricultural Mechanisation for 2007-2009
- 11th September 2007 to April 2008
Complete Class/Practical machinery components of the course.
This will mean combining related modules that were formerly covered in Year 1
and Year 2.
- April 2008 to October 2008
Complete 24 weeks placement.
- November 2008 – Jan 2009
Return to college to complete syllabus i.e. Management
Module and Proficiency Testing (approx. 5 weeks).
NOTE:-
All Management Modules will now be delivered in November 2008
unlike previously where they were delivered over the two years.
- Timing of some proficiency tests will depend on the
weather.
- Course content does not change.
- American placement is still an option for interested
students.
- Placement is reduced from 36 weeks to 24 weeks.

Qualifications Attainable
The syllabi for the following examinations are covered:
- FETAC Advanced Certificate in Agricultural Mechanisation
- City & Guilds, 3942, A Certificate in Land Based Service Engineering.
- City & Guilds, 4351, Computer Aided Design (AutoCAD LT)
Relationships have been created with other colleges which allow our students to progress to the final
stages of a similar course in those colleges. For example a student can progress to
Institute of Technology in Tralee or to the final year of the General National Vocational Qualification level-II in Reaseheath College,
England.
Course Content
The purpose of the course is to provide students with
practical skills and a knowledge of agricultural machinery, workshop
processes, the operation of farm machines.
Students spent approximately 2/3 of their time doing practicals in the
workshops and the other 1/3 on classwork.

Admission to Course
- Students must have completed one year in an agricultural college or an equivalent college, i.e. Institute of Technology.
- Must be recommended by the Principal of the college attended.
Places will be awarded on the basis of an interview and workshop knowledge.
Fees and Grants
The approximate fee payable to the college for the academic year 2008-2009 will be
2800Euro for residential students and 1300 Euro for non-residential students.
(The fees payable are net of the N.D.P. grant)
Application and Further Details
For further information and application form please contact the college. Completed application forms should be returned to the Principal together with birth certificate, agricultural college reference and
10 Euro application fee NOT LATER THAN FRIDAY 6st JUNE 2008.
A medical certificate will be required at a later date should a candidate be successful in obtaining a place on the course. Parents or Guardians will be liable for any medical expenses incurred by there son or daughter while attending the college.
